A new study by the Urban Institute revealed that counseling significantly increased the ability for homeowners to stay current once they obtained a loan modification on their mortgages. The study found that these homeowners were 67% more likely to remain on top of their mortgage payments 9 months after receiving a loan modification. Counseling services have helped homeowners improve their financial management skills as well as their relationships with loan servicers.
